About Barbaro

What drives me is a deep respect for roots, culture and lived experience. I trained at the prestigious Conjunto Folklórico Nacional de Cuba, where I connected deeply with the essence of Afro-Cuban traditions. Today, I carry those roots into my work while reimagining them for dancers of today — blending soul, flow, and powerful innovation. This creates fusions that connect traditional movement with modern expression.

For me, dance is not something to reproduce, but something to understand, embody and pass on with care. The music, the history and the social context are inseparable from the movement. Curiosity, discipline and presence guide the work — always listening, always evolving.

What is emerging now is a phase of expansion. Sharing knowledge more intentionally, creating spaces for connection, and bringing movement, culture and energy together. Through workshops, intensive bootcamps and collaborations, the focus shifts toward depth: understanding the roots, listening to the music, and allowing the body to speak with honesty and freedom.

The ambition is to keep building — step by step, city by city — in the Netherlands, Europe and beyond. To grow communities, explore new formats, and let dance remain a living language that evolves through experience, exchange and presence.

This is both an arrival point and a beginning of something great.
